Personally, I’d do an economic impact study.
TEXAS – In an effort to keep Texas from enacting a so-called “bathroom bill” and a “religious freedom” bill in the state, business organizations are stressing the economic impact of such legislation.
At a press conference Tuesday at the Texas State Capitol, Keep Texas Open for Business and the Texas Association of Business (TAB) unveiled an economic impact study that looked into the effects of the proposed bills on the Texas economy.
North Carolina’s ‘bathroom bill’ caused real economic impact. I actually don’t think the economic impact will sway Texas politicians.
Governor Pat McCrory was defeated in his gubernatorial reelection bid in part because he signed HB2.
But getting back to my main point, if something is right, and you can justify it…the economic impact is not a reason to fold.
And a robber discovers the end of one. h/t Freedom is Just Another Word…
The parents of a dead armed robber are very angry over his death, and are demanding to know why his innocent victim was allowed to be armed.
It’s been a difficult week for parents Temia Hairston and Michael Grace Sr. Their son, Michael Grace Jr., was shot and killed during an attempted robbery early Sunday morning.
Police said Grace Jr. and two other people tried to rob a Pizza Hut in the 3200 block of Freedom Drive. During the incident, an employee fired his own handgun and killed Grace Jr.
Hairston said she learned of her son’s death on social media, and only got confirmation from police after contacting them first. The grieving mother said she has been left with dozens of questions about the situation that have thus far gone unanswered.
“If there was to be a death, it was not the place of the employee at Pizza Hut. That is the place of law enforcement,” said Hairston
The parents are angry that their son was shot and killed by an employee. They don’t believe the full story has been released to the public.
“Why in the hell did this guy have a gun?” questioned Hairston about the employee who shot her son.
The three robbers were armed. This guy was shot to death by someone protection the lives of others. I’ll bet Pizza Hut policy prohibits shooting customers, but I hope they make an exception.
I still would rather be judged by twelve than carried by 6.
From the Unintended Consequences Dept of the Craft Blog:
The Associated Press is reporting the city of Charlotte says protests following the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott in September cost city taxpayers $4.6 million.
Most of that figure went to police officers who worked overtime.
The NCAA announced Monday evening it would pull seven championship tournament games out of North Carolina because of a controversial state law that critics say is discriminatory to the LGBT community.
“Based on the NCAA’s commitment to fairness and inclusion, the Association will relocate all seven previously awarded championship events from North Carolina during the 2016-17 academic year,” the NCAA said in a statement.
Millions of tourism dollars will be lost. North Carolina lawmakers reacted to a Charlotte ordinance allowing transgender folks to use the bathroom labeled with the gender they ‘identify with.’
The organization said “current North Carolina state laws” don’t align with its commitment to “promote an inclusive atmosphere for all college athletes, coaches, administrators and fans.”
The strongest argument about HB2 states that transgender individuals just want to fit in, they never commit crimes in the bathroom and that men would never sneak a peek.
Here’s Kate, and her story. She had her kids with her. He had a phone. In the women’s locker room. Watching other women shower.
A North Carolina man has been charged with trying to create a cell of terrorists willing to kill a woman linked to the “Draw Prophet Mohammed Contest.” (I assume they mean Pamela Geller.)
Erick Jamal Hendricks, 35, tried to recruit people to train together and conduct terrorist attacks in the United States on behalf of ISIL, according to a criminal complaint unsealed today in U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Ohio.

Hendricks allegedly told another person that his goal was to create a sleeper cell to be trained and housed at a secure compound that would conduct attacks in the United States. He mentioned that potential targets included military members whose information had been released by ISIL and the woman who organized the “Draw Prophet Mohammad contest,” and he claimed to have 10 members signed up for his group, according to allegations in the complaint.
Brett Kimberlin repeatedly used his platform as a litigant to try to entice Muslims to take notice of an individual he happens to dislike. He used improper means to publicize this individual’s name and address. Kimberlin has tried very hard to accuse this person of being disrespectful to Mohammed.
Was that ‘material support’ of ISIS? Can Kimberlin trust that the FBI hasn’t already tried to investigate the situation? For months this ISIS/ISIL wannabe communicated with someone who was actually an FBI informant. At this point, paroled domestic terrorists should be very suspicious of everyone.
It’s a dangerous world. Take care of each other.
