Quote of the Day

“You don’t need a college education, only a little common sense to know that some ideas some opinions, some solutions, some options are neither opinions, solutions or options, but are not fit to be repeated and are not fit for a society of humans. And so-called hate speech which usually incorporates White Supremacy, misogyny, homophobia, Islamaphobia and xenophobia fits this category.” Mel Reeves, in Fight the Power Journal (which turns out to be just what you’d expect from the title.)

Is declaring your opponents to be sub- or non-human the first or second step towards genocide? These fascists should be careful. They’re announcing their intentions early, and where we can hear them.

In all cases, the other side only needs to be able to offer the argument that the problem doesn’t exist, or that the proposed means of dealing with the problem would cause other, greater problems. I feel that they aren’t so much worried about the speech they complain about, but rather the speech they don’t and would like to be able to block. For instance, a reasonable and evidence based argument against affirmative action would surely be considered hate speech within moments of allowing that anything else is. If hate was actually their target, they’d put a bit more effort into calling out the hate on their side, after all. They don’t want to stop hate, they just want to pick which hate is allowed.
