I too have no medical training or experience. People who seem to know more about Parkinson’s disease than I do say that it is a progressive and debilitating disease. Based on Willy’s own words, it is conceivable that he has a most unusual case because he seems to deteriorate and ameliorate. That has led some to suspect that he does not really have Parkinson’s, but merely claimed to do so in order to garner disability payments. But there are quite a few possibilities, e.g. he has Parkinson’s in a very mild form that he exaggerates when he finds it convenient to do so, or he has some other non-progressive disease that was misdiagnosed.

I do not believe the issue is important. If, as some believe, he has no serious disease and is merely scamming for disability payments, that could not lower my opinion of him below where it already is. If he is diseased as he claims and as I believe (without any opinion on what exactly his disease may be), that too is irrelevant. His complaints always mention that he is diseased as though that excuses or justifies his behavior. It is his behavior that provokes disdain and laughter, not his disease or lack thereof. For example, deluging someone with unwanted messages on the laughably spurious grounds that you are a “pro se prosecutor” is not justified or excused by disease unless your disease is insanity. To the best of my knowledge, Willy has never seriously claimed to be insane despite his recent admission under oath to being “slow in the thought department.” I am not sure that being stupid is considered a disease, and if it is, I believe it unlikely that he has that particular disease.

But, the Deranged Cyberstalker Bill Schmalfeldt *has* claimed (under oath in front of a judge) that he suffers from “Diminished Mental Capacity.”

Decades and decades of Morbid Obesity would explain a whole lot.

Allow me to correct a common misconception about bill’s disability. It’s commonly said that he faked Parkinson’s to defraud social security disability out of 25k per year. This is a scurrilous untruth. He actually faked Parkinson’s to defraud whatever the carrier was the for the federal governments long term disability policy out of 2/3 of his final yearly salary, more like 65k. He only accepted the social security disability as a last resort when the other plan fell through.

Never let it be said that he didn’t aim high originally. Damn those minimum work period limitations. If he had put the minimum time at the NIH he would have gotten the prize. Moral of the story – read the fine print.
