Quote of the Day

His fathomless lack of interest in America’s path to the present and his limitless gullibility leave him susceptible to being blown about by gusts of factoids that cling like lint to a disorderly mind. – George Will, speaking about Pres. Donald Trump

Worth a read.

Our way of choosing Presidents comes in two flavors. One is we pick everyone on on side’s second choice. We have a favorite, there is one (or more) popular candidates who won’t be picked because of where they stand relatively vs the best choice ™ .. which is different for various people and groups. Trump, Obama, and W were all elected this way. The other is the party’s choice candidate. Hillary fell in this camp.

Neither way is likely to get you a good president, and with Bill Clinton’s uhh.. cigar.. the level to which we hold the people who take that office is dropping. I mean, W is probably the most decent and respectable president since Reagan. Before that, who? Maybe Eisenhower? The most powerful office in the world is only occupied by someone you’d subjectivity want there around 10% of the time. The great Presidents would probably fit on Rushmore, though I can’t say the ones on Rushmore are necessarily the great Presidents. Pretty close?

In what way is this not a description of Obama and why couldn’t Will uncork a similar declaration during 8 years of vacationing, blundering, and weaponizing the executive to attack his grudges?
