Milo Yiannopolos, the Breitbart writer who has forced journalism school graduates to learn the word provocateur. has a book deal. His publisher is facing boycotts, and free speech advocates are standing up for him.
Several major literature and anti-censorship organizationshave signed a statement defending publisher Simon and Schuster’s “right to publish” MILO’s upcoming book Dangerous, which has seen many others threaten to boycott the company.
The statement, which was led by the National Coalition Against Censorship, has been signed by groups such as the American Library Association’s Freedom to Read Foundation, the American Booksellers Association, the Association of American Publishers, and the National Council of Teachers of English.
Other groups signed to the statement also include the Author’s Guild, the Index on Censorship, and The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. [Holy crap. There’s a Comic Book Legal Defense Fund! — Dave]
“Threats to boycott publishers undermine intellectual freedom and harm readers and writers,” declared the statement, issued by the National Coalition Against Censorship. “As organizations dedicated to protecting freedom of expression, we write to comment on the calls for a boycott against Simon & Schuster because Threshold Editions, one of its imprints, has contracted to publish a book by Milo Yiannopoulos, a provocateur and self-described ‘supervillain,’ whose views and statements are highly controversial and deeply offensive to many.”
Milo is attention-getting, and profane. Like Richard Pryor, he says words which some of us figure he will regret later. [Pryor stopped saying that word I’m talking about after a trip to Africa in the late ’70’s. – Dave]
Since he’s gay, his vocabulary about being gay is more — lets say flamboyant — than we can print here.
He might grow out of it. I hope. He seems to have things to say, and I hope folks read his stuff. He’s conservative, likes tweaking the left, and has no time for the hurt feelings of social justice warriors.
He’s also forcing the censors out in the open. The anti-free speech mobs are grabbing pitchforks and lighting torches, and it is all from the left. Their plan? Call Milo, Malkin, Coulter and everybody else on the right fascist…then act like fascists in the process.
That plan won’t work.
