Air Force Veteran Assaulted for Mentioning God in a Retirement Ceremony

Breitbart and First Liberty tell the story of a veteran who was asked to give a speech at a retirement ceremony at Travis Air Force Base, Sacramento, California in March.  The video shows him being physically removed — you’d probably agree he was assaulted.  His offense?  He mentioned God.

“I have given more than three decades of service to the military and made many sacrifices for my country,” said Rodriguez. “To have the Air Force assault me and drag me out of a retirement ceremony simply because my speech included the word ‘God’ is something I never expected from our military.”

I actually can’t believe what I see on the video.  Are we now to the point that military personnel would remove a veteran for mentioning God?

    Two quick comments:

First, a little bit of irony in that one of the songs played in the background was America the Beautiful – which *gasp* mentions God in the lyrics. (It was an instrumental version though.)

Second, and more importantly, why the he’ll didn’t Roberson stands up and object, walk out, or something? He sat there the whole time seemingly unreactive while the person he invited was forcefully removed in front of him for no apparent reason.

Notwithstanding the gist of your commentary, Dave; if I’m recalling the correct incident, the dude was not actually invited to speak at the other guy’s retirement ceremony. As I recall, this was a bit of inappropriate grandstanding. Note that he is immediately shadowed as soon as he stands up and doesn’t being speaking until other personnel move to escort him from the area?

If the First Liberty link is to be believed, and there is video there with Roberson indicating such, Rodriguez was invited there at the behest of Roberson. It is noted that it was one of Roberson’s superior officers that pushed against the idea.
